Ex-Croatian Football Captain Wins Golf Tournament

The last place one would expect to find former Croatian football captain Niko Kovac would be on the golf course. Following in the footsteps of former Chicago Bulls basketball legend Toni Kukoc, who took up the game of golf upon retirement, Kovac has swapped his football boots for a set of clubs and turned into a better than average golfer.

Both Kukoc and Kovac are members of the Split 1700 Golf Club, with Niko playing for Split 1700 Golf Club’s 3rd team “Brela”, who on Monday in Zagreb won the Men’s second division and earn’t promotion to the first division.

“I am proud of my team-mates and the results we achieved. I have been connected to Brela for a long time and it was not hard to convince me to play for them,” said Kovac, who made the trip from his home in Austria for the tournament, reported 24sata.
