The Croatian women’s water polo team has written history on Tuesday in Split.
A convincing 15:6 (4:1, 4:1, 5:3, 2:1) win over Romania in the 3rd round of Group A at the European Championship being held in Split saw Croatia secure a spot among the best 8 teams in Europe.
This is the biggest achievement in Croatian women’s water polo history.
Matea Skelin with 4 goals and Jelena Butić with 3 goals were standouts for Croatia today.
“We have done our job, but we do not intend to stop there. There will be more games in the battle for the 5th to 8th place where we can look for another victory. Now the first task before us is to prepare for Hungary, who are our next rivals. We will prepare as best we can, try to make a big difference and for the girls to play it without stress,” said coach Aljoša Kunac.
Top scorer Matea Skelin added.
“We invested many summers in this, devoted ourselves to training. The one against the Netherlands in the 1st round was actually the worst in the first quarter, although it is clear that they are better. We are not done yet, we hope for another victory here, why not.
