Krka National Park welcomes one millionth visitor

On the Skradin bridge, where the Krka River and the sea meet for the first time, the millionth visitor of the “Krka” National Park was welcomed in 2022. 

The happy family was surprised by Davor Filipović, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, and Nella Slavica, director of the Public Institution “National Park” Krka”, who presented them with gifts. 

The six-member Chehadeh family from Germany were visiting Croatia, and the “Krka” National Park, for the first time.

After two uncertain years, the “Krka” National Park achieves good results and registers great interest from visitors, which shows that the tourism is back, but also about the results of sustainable management within the Institution.

With the aim of implementing active conservation and revitalisation measures, certain management regulations were adopted in the “Krka” National Park in accordance with long-term strategic goals and established sustainable management measures.

Thanks to the activation of countless capacities of the upper reaches of the Krka River and the restriction of swimming in order to preserve tufa as a fundamental phenomenon, today visitors can plan their own tour of the Park. 

Through the systematic valorisation of the middle and upper reaches, the public institution “Krka National Park” strives to present this area in its originality and develop it for an active stay in nature through the arrangement of pedestrian and bicycle paths and scientific and educational contents.

In order to improve the spatial and temporal arrangement of visitors, as part of the project Nepoznata Krka, educational-pedestrian paths were arranged in the northern part of the Park, and recently a large interpretation-educational and volunteer centre Eco Campus “Krka” was opened in Puljani.

As part of that project, two electrically powered catamarans, important for the preservation of the biological diversity of the Krka River, were purchased, which transport excursionists from Roško Slap to Visovac. Projects such as Nepoznata Krka are the result of long-term thinking about protecting the ecosystem and improving the way of visiting into a sustainable system, which ultimately results in a million satisfied visitors.
