Vučedol Culture Museum in Vukovar wins prestigious European award

The Vučedol Culture Museum in Vukovar continues to achieve notable achievements, the most recent of which is the prestigious European “Destination of Sustainable Cultural Tourism 2022” award.
The eastern Croatian museum won the award in the “Promotion of European heritage to young visitors and travellers” category and is the only Croatian winner of a prestigious European Destination of Sustainable Cultural Tourism 2022 award.

The mission of Vučedol Culture Museum is the research, protection, presentation and interpretation of the local identity, history, culture, and art, as well as the tradition, natural-historical and archaeological heritage of eastern Croatia.

The museum also recently picked up another award when the European Commission awarded it the European Heritage Label in Brussels in June.
Mayor Ivan Penava congratulated the Vučedol Culture Museum and director Mirela Hutinec.
“After the European Commission awarded it the European Heritage Label in June of this year, it won another prestigious European award – “Destination of Sustainable Cultural Tourism 2022” in the category “Promotion of European Heritage to Young Visitors and Travelers”, for which I send my sincerest congratulations. The Vučedol Culture Museum hides the true richness of our tradition and heritage, and it is important to teach the younger generations about it. I am extremely glad that the museum’s work has been recognised at the European level, and I am sure that the construction of the Vučedol Archaeological Park will create and recognise an even greater value when it comes to one of the most important archaeological sites in Europe,” said Penava.

The director of the Vučedol Culture Museum, Mirela Hutinec, pointed out that she is proud that with a small but very valuable museum team of only 10 people, the museum achieves has achieved visibility in Europe and receives very important awards.
“Since the opening of the museum in 2015, about 500,000 visitors have visited us, and we focus on all age groups, especially young people, whom we try to interest in prehistory with various workshops that we diligently prepare for them,” said Hutinec.
