The countdown is almost over. We are just days away now before Croatia plays its first match at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
This is the 6th time Croatia will be playing on football’s biggest stage and they will be hoping to go one better than in the last World Cup in 2018 where they were runners-up.
Like every major tournament, Croatia’s kit is always one of the standouts.
The latest home and away kits, which were revealed back in September, sees the home kit featuring a remixed and modernised take on the checkers.

The away kit checkers feature blurred, wavy lines and utilise a colour palette of Blackened Blue and Laser Blue, designed to resemble the ebbs and flows of the Adriatic Sea, which lines Croatia’s coast.
The typeface applied to the names and numbers on the kits is inspired by the historic Croatian Glagolitic alphabet.

At the World Cup in Russia, Croatia mostly wore their dark away kit because of colour clashes with the opposition. They only wore the red and white home kit against Nigeria in the opening match and then again in the final against France.
They beat Argentina, Iceland, Denmark, Russia and England all in the away kit.
So which kit will they wear at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar?
All three of Croatia’s group opponents – Morocco, Canada and Belgium have largely red kits.
“On the new kit, which our national team players presented against Denmark two months ago, the colour white prevails, so they can play against national teams that have red jerseys. And these are precisely Morocco, Canada and Belgium,” daily 24sata said.
Tomislav Globan, a professor from the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb, was sure that Croatia would play all three matches in the blue away kit because of colour clashes, but HNS spokesman Tomislav Pacak responded to his tweet to clarify that Croatia will in fact wear the red and white checkers in all three group matches.
“To cheer you up – we play all three games in our first kit,” wrote Pacak.

Čini se da će crveno-bijeli kvadratići morati pričekati na osminu finala jer u grupi nam ne gine rezervna varijanta u sve 3 utakmice. 🙂
For those that are superstitious, Croatia is undefeated in their new home kit, albeit they have only worn it once against Denmark in September.
“At the World Cup, Croatia has played 14 times in the home kit and won five times. In the away kit Croatia has won 8 matches and lost just one – to Ecuador in 2002,” 24sata concluded.
