Considered unlucky by many not to have won the Golden Glove award at the recent 2022 FIFA World Cup after his heroics for Croatia, Dominik Livaković has now been included by FIFA in their list of nominees for The Best Men’s Goalkeeper Award.
The Best FIFA Football Awards will take place on 27 February 2023 and the Croatian keeper is one of seven nominees for the award.
Dinamo Zagreb’s no.1 was nominated along with Alisson, Bono, Courtois, Maignan, Martinez and Neuer, FIFA announced.
“Dominik Livakovic delivered arguably the best performance of any keeper at Qatar 2022 in Croatia’s quarter-final win over Brazil. His 11 saves during the game were the most any keeper has made in a World Cup match since 2014, and he was his nation’s penalty hero as they dispatched the five-time world champions in a dramatic shootout.
Aside from his capacity to produce match-defining saves, Livakovic earned widespread acclaim for his bravery, presence and cool demeanour. He has also been instrumental in a stellar year for club team Dinamo Zagreb, with whom he won the league title for a fifth consecutive season,” FIFA wrote.
