ZAGREB, 1 February 2023 – The Croatian Football Federation (HNS) today has been hit with another fine from world football’s governing body FIFA.
HNS has been fined 5,000 Swiss francs after an investigation was opened up by FIFA following the World Cup 3rd-4th playoff match against Morocco in Qatar, HNS confirmed on Wednesday.
The statement from the HNS below in full:
The FIFA Disciplinary Commission has decided to punish the Croatian Football Federation for the behaviour of several individuals before the third place match against Morocco at the FIFA World Cup.
HNS was fined 5,000 Swiss francs for the inappropriate behaviour of a few individuals (use of banners with inappropriate content) before the match against Morocco, played on 17 December.
Today’s fine was the second to result from the FIFA World Cup. In December, FIFA fined HNS 50,000 Swiss francs for the inappropriate behaviour of some fans (inappropriate chanting and use of banners with inappropriate content) during the match against Canada played on November 27.
FIFA opened proceedings after that match on the basis of articles 13 and 16 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code after Canada goalkeeper Milan Borjan was subjected to what they considered abusive banners, songs and verbal insults during Croatia’s 4-1 victory over Canada.
