Luka Modrić will join up with the Croatian national team tomorrow as he prepares to play his 163rd game for the ‘Vatreni’ when they meet Wales in Split on Saturday in their opening Euro 2024 qualifier.
But before that, he will play in the El Clasico when Real Madrid play Barcelona at Camp Nou tonight.
On the eve of the big derby, Modrić spoke to DAZN, in which he touched on some interesting topics.
The main topic of course was a new contract with the European champions. Modrić has made it clear that he wants to play one more season for Real, but there has been talks of Madrid wanting him to say goodbye to the national team and thus save his energy, since he will celebrate his 38th birthday at the end of the summer.
“The club knows my wish, I’ve said it many times and I won’t talk about it now. I want to do my best, so at the end of the season we’ll sit down and see,” he said.
Modrić also revealed that he was nicknamed ‘Vinagre’ in the Real Madrid dressing room. In Spain, that is what they call people who lose their temper very easily, Gol.hr writes.
“Haha, that’s what everyone says. I got the nickname because I always get angry when I lose in training. I hate that. But I’m not the only one, there are worse ones than me,” Modrić concluded.
