Zagreb, March 29, 2023 – The British rock institution The Cult is returning to Zagreb and will perform at Šalata Stadium on Friday, June 30, 2023.

Exactly six years after their performance at a packed Šalata Stadium, the legendary band comes back to the city’s favourite open-air venue, still led by the founders and main songwriters Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy.

The Cult are coming to Zagreb as part of a big tour that takes them around Europe and the UK on the wings of their new album “Under The Midnight Sun”.

The current eleventh album confirms that The Cult are a cult rock name, and the critics agrees. Metal Planet Music calls the new album that describes the world around us triumphant, while Ghost Cult Mag says that with it the band confirms that they are top notch. Ultimate Classic Rock praises the eight songs and the eternal phenomenon of Duffy’s guitars and Astbury’s baritone, Louder Sound says that Cult returns to the best version of itself, and Pop Matters that “Under The Midnight Sun” belongs to the band’s key albums.

As one of the greatest hard rock bands of all time, The Cult built the history of the genre and entered the music encyclopaedias with singles like “She Sells Sanctuary”, “Rain”, “Fire Woman”, “Sweet Soul Sister”, “Lil’ Devil” and “Wild Flower”. The big open-air spectacle at Šalata will be an opportunity to go through four decades of the career of one of the best rock bands and favourites of the local audience.

The Cult was founded in 1983 and in just a few seasons became a global sensation led by the charismatic Ian Astbury, one of the most recognisable figures in rock music, and four cult albums cemented their positions in music encyclopaedias. The rock titans are one of the biggest names in music from the mid-80s onwards, and there isn’t a rock club that hasn’t played their songs, while the band continues to fill the biggest concert arenas around the planet.

The main role in their expression was played by post punk goth refined by the spirits of the Doors, Led Zeppelin, as well as AC/DC, and the mysticism of the Indians, who are present as Astbury’s constant inspiration in the lyrics. The first album “Dreamtime” from 1984 launched the band in the UK, followed by the album “Love”, undoubtedly one of the most important works in the history of rock music along with the singles “She Sells Sanctuary” and “Rain”.

The third album “Electric” continued the band’s success with a hard rock sound, created a huge fan base in America, and flew into the list of top 40 albums, with the singles “Love Removal Machine”, which became a mega hit, and “Lil’ Devil”. It was followed by the triumphant “Sonic Temple”, The Cult’s most successful album, with the singles “Fire Woman” and “Sweet Soul Sister” catapulting it into the top ten American albums.

The Cult took a break after the release of the album “Ceremony” and the compilation of hits of the same name, and 2001 marks the return of Astbury and The Cult with the album “Beyond Good and Evil” followed by “Born into This” and “Choice Of Weapon”. The successor to “The Hidden City” took them on a world tour, and critics called it one of the most powerful and daring works of their career, while the latest album “Under The Midnight Sun” once again places them in the musical encyclopaedias. The performance of the legendary British five-piece will be an opportunity to hear some of The Cult’s greatest hits, which will thunder from Zagreb’s Šalata stadium.

The first tickets will be available on Thursday, March 30 from 10:00 a.m. through the LAA newsletter. The public sale starts a day later, on Friday, March 31 at 10:00 a.m. at a price of EUR 39. From April 16 to June 29, the price will be EUR 43, and on the day of the concert, EUR 47.
