In 2022, Croatia earned 13.1 billion euros from foreign tourists, which is a 44% increase from the same period in 2021 when it earned 3.9 billion euros more, the Ministry of Tourism reported today.
It is also 24% higher than the revenue from foreign tourists in the record-breaking year 2019. If domestic tourists are included, the estimated total income from tourism in 2022 is about 15 billion euros.
The growth in revenue is not limited to the summer season as there was a 19% increase in income outside the summer season compared to the same period in 2019. In the fourth quarter of 2022, there was a 44% increase in revenue from foreign tourists compared to the same period in 2021, and a 33% increase compared to the same period in 2019.
In the first quarter of 2022, there was a 105% increase in revenue from foreign tourists compared to the same period in 2021, and a 2% increase compared to the same period in 2019. In the second quarter of 2022, there was a 121% increase in revenue from foreign tourists compared to the same period in 2021, and a 16% increase compared to the same period in 2019. In the third quarter of 2022, there was a 27% increase in revenue from foreign tourists compared to the same period in 2021, and a 28% increase compared to the same period in 2019.
Minister of Tourism and Sports Nikolina Brnjac congratulated the tourism sector on the achieved results and hopes that it will motivate them to continue performing well in 2023.
“Croatia has so far achieved record results in income from foreign tourists in 2022 – a total of 13.1 billion euros. If we were to add to that the estimated income from domestic tourists, it is estimated that the total income from tourism in 2022 will be around 15 billion euros. These results are confirmation of our focus on quality and added value. We are particularly pleased that, in addition to the level of the entire year, we achieved a significant increase in income in the periods outside the summer season, where an average growth of 19 percent was recorded compared to the same period of the record-breaking year 2019. I congratulate the entire tourism sector on the achieved results, which I believe will be additional motivation for the continuation of the tourist year 2023”, said Minister of Tourism and Sports Nikolina Brnjac.
