ZAGREB, 14 April (Hina) – The “First Kings of Europe” exhibition, which includes items from the Zagreb Archaeological Museum, opened at the Field Museum in Chicago, the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb (AMZ) reported on Friday.
The exhibition explores the rise to power of the communities of Old Europe by displaying objects from 11 countries.
Jewellery, weapons, defence equipment, various tools and ritual objects are being presented together for the first time. Some of them have never before been exhibited outside the country where they were found and some have never even been presented in public, Zagreb’s Archaeological Museum said.
One of the most unique and special things about this exhibition is the international collaboration that took place to create the exhibition, said Field Museum curator William Parkinson.
The exhibition is the result of the cooperation of 26 museums from 11 European countries, in addition to the United States and Canada, he added.
Jacqueline Balen, Ivan Drnić and Ana Đukić from AMZ and Filip Franković, an external expert associate of AMZ, wrote the texts for the exhibition catalogue on individual objects from the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb.
Exhibition ‘travels back in time’ to 5000 BC
The exhibition “First Kings of Europe” explores the development from ancient agricultural settlements to the earliest tribal kingdoms of Europe. More than 700 items presented at the exhibition come from the Early Stone, Copper, Bronze and Iron Ages.
The exhibition will remain open until 28 January 2024.
