Coach of Croatian first division (HNL) side HNK Gorica, Željko Sopić, fulfilled his promise after his side’s big away win against Šibenik last night, and upon returning to Velika Gorica at half past one in the morning, he took his players for a training session.
HNK Gorica surprisingly celebrated a convincing victory in the first match of the 29th round of the HNL, defeating Šibenik 4-0 in the relegation derby, and thus gaining three valuable points in the battle for survival.
At the moment, Šibenik is only one point ahead of them.
“This is a 10,000-meter race, as I said when I took over Gorica. There are a lot of points at stake, and we will try to win as many as possible. They will drink a little on the bus, and they don’t know that a training session awaits them at 1am in Gorica. We need to get rid of all that alcohol,” said coach Sopić after the game.
A video posted on the club’s official website confirms that he wasn’t joking, as Gorica’s players were doing laps on their training pitch in Velika Gorica at half past one in the morning.
“If some light woke you up in Velika Gorica, don’t worry, it’s just our floodlights, we’re training,” HNK Gorica announced on their Facebook page.
