Zagreb is set to welcome the new season of street festivals with the upcoming Welcome Spring festival. This festival of positive changes is scheduled to begin on April 28 and run for ten days until May 7.
The festival is being organized by members of the Nature for All association, who aim to educate children, young people, and the general public about sustainable development, climate change, and waste in a fun and informal way.
The festival will feature a variety of activities, including concerts, quizzes, art programs, and workshops. One of the most popular events is the Little Olympics of Waste, which is held every day and attracts ambitious citizens and people from public life who compete in their knowledge of waste with lots of laughter.
Other events include contemporary dance performances by Silvija Hercigonje’s school, as well as music performances by Stampedo, Terminator, Neki Novi Klinci, and Planet Groove. Visitors can also enjoy a circus show by El Circ, stand-up comedy by Marina Orsag, and musical comedy by Drljos Hermanos.
The organizers are also focusing on climate change and environmental protection as an essential part of our everyday life. To encourage individuals and institutions to change, the Nature for All association has decided to use only plates, straws, and other accessories made of 100% biodegradable materials. Additionally, disposable plastic has been replaced by returnable cups.
The festival will take place in the meadow between Hrvatske bratska zajednica street and Vukovarska street, and admission to all programs is free. The festival is being held from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. on weekdays, until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and until 12 a.m. on Sundays. Visitors can also stop by the Somersby garden with friends to chill, enjoy exercise, yoga, or a children’s show, take selfies, dance under the stars, and enjoy a good atmosphere.
The organizers’ wish is to talk about serious topics in a casual way, through fun and practical workshops and competitions. They hope that the habits of children, young people, and other residents of Zagreb can slowly begin to change in the direction of a sustainable future.
