Modern road to connect Mostar with Croatia via western Herzegovina
A fast, modern four-lane road worth 938 million KM (approximately 470 million euros) will be built from Mostar through Široki Brijeg and Grude to Croatia, connecting one side to the highway on Corridor 5C and the other to the road network in Croatia, Klix.ba reports.
The 60-kilometer road construction project is an important capital project that will completely change the image of transportation infrastructure in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina and open up a vast space for tourism and economic development in the country.
JP Autoceste Federacije BiH, which is the project’s sponsor, confirmed to Klix.ba that work on the preparation of the new road from Mostar through western Herzegovina towards the European Union is well underway.
The total length of the fast road from Mostar north to the border with Croatia is 60.7 kilometers, with a total estimated cost of 938 million KM. The road will be divided into two sections, with the first section, Mostar north to Polog, being 20.3 kilometers long and the second section, Polog to the border with Croatia, being 40.4 kilometers long.
JP Autoceste FBiH stated that the main project for the fast road section from Polog to the Croatian border, worth 476 million KM, has been completed. Construction of the fast road will occur in phases, with the first phase being the construction of the Podledinac-Grude Istok section, which is 6.5 kilometers.
In addition to faster transportation of people, due to the fact that it will be connected on one side with the highway on the VC Corridor, and on the other with the road network in Croatia, this will also mean the opening of new perspectives for local businessmen, investments in economic activities, faster exchange of goods and capital and market competitiveness for all.
At the moment, the tentative date for the start of the works, as well as the planned completion date for this road, is not known, given that the tender has yet to be announced.
