Unique Flip Flop race on Biokovo mountain

Visit Podgora – Tourist Board of Podgora presents the Flip Flop Biokovo Challenge, an educational and recreational event aimed at providing essential information and a fun-filled experience to all adventure-seeking tourists and visitors.

One of the main objectives of the event is to educate individuals about the importance of being well-prepared and informed about the potential dangers when visiting Biokovo Mountain. 

“We have witnessed numerous accidents involving uninformed tourists and visitors in the past, which is why we decided to create this event. By participating in the Flip Flop Biokovo Challenge, participants will gain valuable knowledge and have an unforgettable adventure,” the Tourist Board of Podgora told us.

The event will feature several esteemed participants who will share their expertise and provide useful information. The Nature Park Biokovo representatives will showcase the park’s offerings and provide essential warnings that can be found at all park entrances. Their insights will be crucial for visitors to understand the do’s and don’ts when exploring the park.

Additionally, the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service from Makarska will deliver a presentation on the necessary equipment for various mountain activities such as rock climbing, mountain biking, speleology, and hiking. They will also provide safety guidelines and instructions on what to do in case of an accident. This information will prove invaluable for anyone venturing into the mountainous terrain.

Join the Flip Flop Biokovo Challenge

The Makarska Red Cross will hold a first aid presentation, emphasising their role in the Life Saving Service on the water and crisis operations. Their expertise will ensure that participants are aware of basic first aid techniques and emergency procedures, ensuring everyone’s safety during mountain activities.

The Podgora Firefighters will also join the event. As a vital association dedicated to saving lives, their presence will remind participants of the importance of preparedness and caution when embarking on mountain adventures.

The main highlight of the Flip Flop Biokovo Challenge is a fun race organised by the Makarska Athletics Club. The race covers a distance of approximately 400 meters and promises entertainment for all participants. It’s important to note that this race is short and, as the name suggests, flip flops are the preferred footwear. 

However, running in flip flops carries its own risks, so participants should proceed at their own discretion.

After the race, everyone is invited to enjoy a delightful gathering, an educational program, and a traditional Dalmatian “marenda.” This will be a perfect opportunity to connect with fellow adventurers and further enhance your knowledge of Biokovo.
