Luka Modrić signs contract extension with Real Madrid

Luka Modrić has officially extended his contract with Real Madrid for another year, ensuring his presence in the club for a total of 14 years. 

Just five days before his existing contract expired, at precisely noon, Real Madrid made the official announcement today that Modrić had signed a one-year extension. 

Modrić’s decision to stay with Real Madrid has been resolved, but there remains another decision that Croatian fans eagerly await. After the UEFA Nations League, he announced that he had made a decision regarding his international career, but he would not reveal it just yet. 

He plans to take some time off, rest, and then share the news with the public. 

While he will continue to play for Real Madrid for at least one more season, this has sparked optimism among fans that he may lead the Croatian national team in the upcoming Euro 2024 in Germany, thus concluding a magnificent chapter of his career.

The football maestro, and a Ballon d’Or winner, arrived at Real Madrid in the summer of 2012 for €35 million. In 488 matches, Modrić has scored 37 goals and provided 77 assists. 

He has won five UEFA Champions League titles, including three consecutive ones, three La Liga titles, four UEFA and Spanish Super Cups, two Copa del Rey titles, and five FIFA Club World Cups so far with Real Madrid. This impressive collection adds up to a total of 23 trophies.
