The jubilee 5th Croatian World Games will be held in Zagreb from July 24th to 29th, organised by the Croatian World Congress and Organisers Without Borders.
This is an amateur sports competition in which Croats and their descendants from all over the world participate, representing the country they live in.
The goal of the Games is to connect young Croats outside of Croatia through sports and cultural gatherings, and to encourage them to cultivate their Croatian identity, return to their homeland, and make future economic investments in Croatia.
The Games have been held so far in 2006 and 2010 in Zadar, and in 2014 and 2017 in Zagreb.
This year’s jubilee 5th Croatian World Games will bring together over 900 competitors who will showcase their skills in ten sports, coming from 27 countries around the world. The competitions will take place on sports fields in Zagreb, and the participants will have accompanying entertaining and educational content with the aim of connecting with young people from Croatia.
Accommodation for the participants is provided at the Stjepan Radić Student Dormitory, where most of the programs will also take place. The opening ceremony of the Games will be on Tuesday, July 25th, at 8:30 PM at the Mladost Athletics Stadium.
The official opening ceremony will be preceded by a holy mass at the Church of St. Mati Slobode in Jarun at 5 PM. The opening at the Mladost Stadium, attended by dignitaries from the public and political life of Croatia, along with a well-designed program, will be followed by a parade of all the participants of the Games, showcasing the strength and unity of Croats outside of Croatia under the slogan of the Games: “One heart, one Croatia!”
The sponsors of the Games are the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Central State Office for Croats Abroad, while the partners include the Croatian Tourist Board, the City of Zagreb, the Croatian Heritage Foundation, the Croatian Chamber of Economy, the Croatian Olympic Committee, and the Croatian Radiotelevision. The Zagreb Tourist Board supports the project.
