Born in Šibenik, Faust Vrančić was a notable figure who made significant contributions through his innovative ideas. He is best known for his inventions and designs, such as the parachute and wind-powered mill with rotating blades.
Vrančić’s work is documented in his historical book “Machinae Novae” (New Machines), which showcases his visionary concepts. His inventions have had a lasting impact on various fields, and he is celebrated as one of Croatia’s pioneering innovators.
He has left a lasting impact on the world with his innovations, and now two new numismatic coins have been dedicated to his legacy. These coins lead the numismatic series called “Croatian Innovators.”
In collaboration with the Croatian Monetary Institute, the Croatian National Bank has issued the gold coin “Faust Vrančić’s Innovations” in a limited series of 300 pieces, along with the silver coin “Faust Vrančić’s Innovations” in a series of no more than 15,000 pieces.
Two Croatian sculptors have collaborated on the artistic design of these coins.
The reverse side of the numismatic coin features the original drawing numbered 38, titled “HOMO VOLANS” (Flying Man), which represents the first printed drawing of a parachute.
The design is created by Jelena Mavrić Varga, mag.art. On the obverse side of the numismatic coin, there is a drawing numbered 13, titled “MOLAE TVRRIS ROTVNDAE” (Mill in a Round Tower), depicting a wind-powered mill with rotating blades on a movable roof.
The design is created by Paula Banić Vudrag, mag.art. Both drawings have their place in Vrančić’s historical book “Machinae Novae” (New Machines).
Each coin comes in a gift box with a certificate signed by the Governor of the Croatian National Bank.
The gold and silver numismatic coin “Faust Vrančić’s Innovations” can be obtained through the online store of the Croatian Monetary Institute and select retail partners.
