Croatia enjoys biggest success at a Biology Olympiads so far in UAE

ZAGREB, 12 July (Hina) – Croatia’s team consisting of four students participated in the 34th International Biology Olympiad in the United Arab Emirates and won a solver and a gold, the Croatian delegation reported, calling this “the biggest success of Croatia at Biology Olympiads so far.”
About 300 students from 79 countries participated in the Olympiad, which took place in Al Ain, from 2 to 11 July.
Secondary school student Lovro Mirković from Zagreb and student Vanda Vrček from Varaždin grabbed the silver and bronze respectively.
Croatia started participating in this contest in 2018.
This is the most successful performance of our students at this prestigious competition in which Croatia has been participating since 2018, with the financial support of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia.
Croatia was represented in the UAE by students from XV. High School Zagreb – Lovro Mirković and Robert Markulin, student from III. High School Split – Mario Vrdoljak, and student from I. High School Varaždin – Vanda Vrček.
The students were prepared for the competition by the staff of the Biological and Chemical Departments of the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, and they were accompanied by Dr. Andreja Lucić and Dr. Petra Cvjetko from the Biological Department of the Faculty of Science.
During their stay in the UAE, the students visited Dubai and Abu Dhabi, familiarized themselves with technological achievements at the Museum of the Future, and had the opportunity to socialize with peers from around the world.
