Croatian Mate Pavić wins Wimbledon mixed doubles title

Croatian Mate Pavić and Ukrainian Ljudmila Kičenok have won the Wimbledon mixed doubles title on Thursday.
Pavić and Kičenok defeated Belgian Vliegen and Chinese Xu Y-F in the final 6-4, 6-7, 6-3. This is a remarkable achievement for Pavić, marking his 36th career title and sixth Grand Slam victory.
Croatian football international Ivan Perišić, a friend of Pavić, was on hand in the box at centre court at Wimbledon on Thursday to witness the victory.

Pavić, who previously won the junior doubles title at Wimbledon, now secures his second title in his fourth final. He had previously won the men’s doubles title in 2021 with Nikola Mektić. Last year, he was defeated in the final, as was the case in 2017 when his partner was Austrian Oliver Marach.
Pavić also won the Australian Open in 2018 with Marach and the US Open in 2020 with Bruno Soares.

In the mixed doubles competition, Mate has titles from the 2016 US Open with German Laura Siegemund and the Australian Open with Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski. He also reached two finals at Roland Garros in 2018 and 2019, both of which they lost to Ivan Dodig and Taiwanese Latisha Chan.
For Pavić’s partner, 30-year-old Ukrainian Ljudmila Kičenok, this is her first final and her maiden Grand Slam title.
