Drivers can now pay tolls on Croatian motorways under Hrvatske Autoceste (Croatian Motorways) using the Telepass device, the Croatian Tourist Board has reported.
This collaboration between Hrvatske Autoceste and Telepass, a leading Italian mobility company, introduces the European Electronic Toll Service (EETS) for all vehicle types.
With Telepass, tolls for passenger vehicles can be paid in five European countries, including Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, and now Croatia. For commercial vehicles, the service is available in a total of 15 countries, including Croatia.
This initiative follows the adoption of Directive EU/2019/520 by the European Parliament and Council on March 19, 2019. The directive aimed to enhance the interoperability of electronic road toll systems and facilitate the cross-border exchange of information on non-payment of tolls within the EU.
“Telepass has taken the lead as the first EETS provider on Croatian motorways, making it a seamless experience for users with a Telepass device, similar to those using electronic toll collection (ENC),” the Croatian Tourist Board said.
The main objective of the European electronic toll service is to simplify travel for users by allowing them to access the entire European motorway network using a single contract and device.
In partnership with Telepass, Hrvatske Autoceste (Croatian Motorways) has made it easier and quicker for travelers coming to Croatia to reach their destinations hassle-free. This advancement marks another step towards more efficient and convenient mobility on Europe’s roadways.
