Four cheeses from Sirana Gligora on the Croatian island of Pag have taken home prestigious prizes at the 2023 Great Taste Awards.
The Great Taste Awards are regarded as one of the most reliable global accolades for food and beverages – their label on a product is a sign to the consumer that it is an exceptionally quality item.
More than 14,000 products from around the world participated in this year’s competition. All nominated products were evaluated based on various qualities, including taste, texture, and ingredients.
A panel of experts then decided whether the product would make it onto the Great Taste list and how many stars it would be awarded:
3 stars: Exceptionally tasty food – only about 1.5% of products receive 3 stars each year – you won’t leave the store without buying this.
2 stars: More than delicious – 10% of products will receive this rating.
1 star: Food or drink that offers a fantastic taste. Approximately 30% of entries achieve this rating every year.
Four cheeses from Sirana Gligora earned 2 stars each: Paški sir (ZOI), Extra Matured Paški sir (ZOI), Kozlar aged in pressed olive skins, and Kozlar aged in pressed wine grapes.
One of the judges commented on the Extra Matured Paški sir: “This cheese has a confident appearance, robust size, and a beautiful texture. It brings sweetness and saltiness to the palate, without overwhelming you with the taste of sheep’s milk, which impressed us. We kept eating more… which by definition means we liked it. A true sign of pleasure and craftsmanship in its making.”
“A truly exciting goat cheese with an exceptional shine brought by the olives. We couldn’t stop exploring both the rind and the paste due to the various levels of nuttiness and creaminess it offers.”
Sirana Gligora says they are extremely pleased with this year’s achievements and the judges’ reactions at the Great Taste Awards.
