Franz Ferdinand to play free concert at Špancirfest in Varaždin

Since last Friday, Varaždin’s historic city centre has been transformed into the largest open-air stage, hosting the 25th edition of Špancirfest, the biggest street festival that traditionally marks the end of summer.

The musical atmosphere is electric, with great anticipation for the headliners, Franz Ferdinand, and their opening act, Joker Out, who will perform tomorrow on the main PAN stage at Stari grad. According to the Scottish music stars, they are bringing a true rock spectacle to Špancirfest, while the young Slovenian band, Joker Out, fresh from a UK tour, is full of energy and ready to hit the stage in Varaždin.

They consider it a great honor to share the stage with Franz Ferdinand, the pioneers of modern British sound, as they often find themselves musically aligned in that direction.

Admission to the concert is free, as are all other concerts on the main festival stage. Enjoying the outstanding performances of street performers, who radiate an incredible amount of positive energy throughout the city, is also free. These performers come from around 10 different countries and guarantee energetic, captivating, and highly colourful shows on the streets and squares of the historic core.

And when you get hungry after the concerts and strolling around, there are three gourmet zones waiting for you: Špancir Burger Festival, Carlsberg Food & Party Zone, and Vinski Grad, all offering a variety of specialties. There are also a few standout culinary corners; Reshetka International has set up its temporary home at Habdelićev Trg, preparing delicious and juicy burgers from their low & slow program.

They have received numerous awards for the quality of their burgers. At Trg Slobode, right at the entrance to Špancirfest, you’ll find the food truck ŠIŠ from Slovenia. It’s their first time at Špancirfest, and their recipes were crafted by two Chefs, one of whom holds a Michelin star recommendation.

To make it easier to reach the city center, the City of Varaždin and the Varaždin Tourist Board have provided free parking at the Auto Klub Varteks parking lot on Biškupečka Street. From there, free “buses” will transport you to the city center during Špancirfest from 5:00 PM to midnight.
