Ivan Perišić successfully operated on in Austria – what doctor says

Croatia winger Ivan Perišić underwent surgery in Innsbruck, Austria on Tuesday and posted a photo from his hospital bed today giving the thumbs up. 

 The 34-year-old suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury in his right knee last week during non-contact training with his club Tottenham. 

After Monday’s successful operation, Perišić will spend a few more days in the clinic before heading to London for rehabilitation. He will undergo a gradual rehabilitation process in which it is crucial not to rush things.

“50 percent is the surgical procedure, and 50 percent is the rehabilitation process. In the initial phase, he can put weight on his leg. In 3 to 4 weeks, he can start cycling, and in 3 months, he can begin running. The challenge is that contact with opposing players won’t be possible for a longer period,” Saša Janković, a doctor from the Croatian Football Federation, told Dnevnik.hr.

Perišić’s work ethic is not in question, and Croatian fans hope that after rehabilitation from this severe knee injury, he won’t suffer any further setbacks.

“He’s an experienced player with a long football career, so we can expect him to be in top form,” says Janković.

In the most ideal scenario, Perišić could play a few matches before Euro 2024 in Germany, which Croatia look set to qualify for.
