This week, construction work on the Sveta Klara Children’s Kindergarten began in the Zagreb suburb of Sveta Klara.
This kindergarten will be one of the largest in the area, which has a population of 11,000 residents. The Sveta Klara Children’s Kindergarten is one of the so-called “Projects 20,” meaning projects whose realisation has been announced and promised for about 20 years, Grad Zagreb reported.
Upon completion of construction, the new Sveta Klara kindergarten, with a total area of around 2,700 square meters, will have 12 groups, six for infants and six for toddlers, and will be able to accommodate around 200 children. It will employ 50 staff members. The opening of the kindergarten is planned for next autumn.
“This kindergarten is one of 26 projects for the construction, expansion, and renovation of children’s kindergartens, for which we will allocate over 100 million euros, aiming to ensure universal access to childcare facilities,” said the Mayor of Zagreb, Tomislav Tomašević. He also mentioned that in addition to Sveta Klara, three more children’s kindergartens are planned in the Novi Zagreb Zapad area – in Podbrežje, Lučko, and a new replacement kindergarten in Remetinec, which will have a larger capacity than the existing one.
The total cost of the construction and equipping of the Sveta Klara kindergarten is approximately 10 million euros, with 2.3 million euros co-financed through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and 7.7 million euros from the city budget.
“Zagreb has never built as many kindergartens as it is today in its history. By the end of the year, we expect the completion of kindergartens in Odransko Obrežje, Ivanja Reka, and Sesvetska Selnica, and based on a public call for renting privately-owned spaces, a kindergarten will open in Sesvete,” emphasised the Deputy Mayor of Zagreb, Danijela Dolenec.
