The artistic installation “Pupoljci”, in English “Buds”, which encourages contemplation of the reuse of objects, has been reinstalled in Zagreb’s Grič tunnel.
“Pupoljci” is part of the sustainable art project in the public space called UpArt, and the artistic platform Artupunktura, currently taking place throughout the city, organised by the Zagreb Tourist Board.
While providing a different experience with an enhanced arrangement compared to last year’s edition, the installation remains dedicated to the theme of recycling and up-cycling objects, inspired by motifs and organic forms from nature that we all strive to preserve, yet entirely crafted from discarded items that burden us daily.
Through this artistic installation, UpArt explores an ecological approach to art, questioning the versatility of used objects and their potential transformation into artwork, as well as the ecological impact of the entire artistic process.
The “Pupoljci” are entirely made from discarded plastic bags and tarps, unusable umbrellas, and leftover metals from production that were redirected from the landfill to the art studio, with all the collected material being processed by hand with minimal ecological footprint.
The UpArt project is initiated by the organization “Art for the City,” and the artistic installation is signed by a creative team composed of Jelena Petric, Jelena Malenica, and Marta Grbešić (installation and arrangement design), Andrija Santro (light design), Hrvoje Nikšić (sound design), and Ana Mikin (project development, creative direction, and production).
UpArt is part of the Artupunktura platform for culture and art organized by the Zagreb Tourist Board and its partners, which consolidates numerous artistic events and cultural projects during the autumn in Zagreb.
Through the collective artistic actions of various artistic organiaations, collectives, and artists at specific points in the city, the aim is to awaken its vital energy and further stimulate cultural offerings, thereby positioning the city of Zagreb as a creative hub and a destination for urban and contemporary cultural scenes in this part of Europe.
