One of the oldest tourist companies in Russia, Ascent Travel, has cancelled its summer programme for Croatia and Montenegro because of a dramatic drop in interest, reports daily Kommersant.
Kommersant reports that Ascent Travel, who specialised in Croatia and Montenegro in Russia, announced that it has cancelled its charter flights to Croatia after a fall in demand from Russian tourists because of new visa requirements. Croatia adopted the European Union visa regime after recently becoming the 28th EU member state, under which all citizens of non-EU countries require a visa when travelling to the EU, meaning non-EU Russians now need a visa to enter Croatia. Ascent Travel confirmed that it had experienced a 60% drop in demand for Croatia, and had to refund close to 140,000 USD after cancelling the charter flights.
