Camino Korčula: Exploring the charming island on foot

The tourist boards of the island of Korčula, under the project association agreement, are implementing the “Camino Korčula” project, co-financed by the Croatian Tourist Board.

The project aims to further the development of active and sustainable tourism, contributing to the extension of the tourist season and the balanced growth of tourism across the island of Korčula. 

Building upon previous initiatives in active, gastronomic, and cultural tourism, this project seeks to enhance and promote these aspects further. 

The Camino Korčula project will continue to evolve, encompassing both active and gastronomic tourism, as well as cultural and religious tourism.

The current route spans the entire island, covering approximately 160 km, with plans to add alternative sections next year and modify existing ones if necessary.

While Korčula is designated as the starting point, participants can commence their journey anywhere on the island as the route is circular. An intriguing aspect of this project is the need for accommodation beyond the typical tourist season and at various points along the route.

During the project implementation, the tourist boards have introduced the option of choosing daily segments freely. This model allows route users to determine the length of their daily journey based on their physical fitness, interests, and the availability of accommodation.

To promote the “Camino Korčula” route, a dedicated website is being developed as part of the Camino Croatia website, where all necessary information will be accessible.

As a special kickoff for the Camino Korčula route, a Camino Korčula Weekend is organized from December 1st to December 3rd.

Day 1: Friday, December 1, 2023

Korčula – Lumbarda – Žrnovo – approximately 19 km

Day 2: Saturday, December 2, 2023

Žrnovo – Pupnat – Čara – approximately 22 km (modified route for event organization)

18:30 Opening of the multimedia exhibition “Camino – The Path that Connects” and “Camino Experience” at the City Museum of Korčula

Day 3: Sunday, December 3, 2023

Smokvica – Blato – Vela Luka – approximately 20 km (modified route for event organization)
