Teatro Solís is the oldest private theatre in South America, located in the heart of Montevideo, Uruguay’s capital. It is renowned for hosting only the highest-quality cultural events, according to the locals.
Thanks to Inés Pereyra Rivero, Teatro Solís opened its foyer to the Croatian Ties Project
The travelling exhibition, which highlights influential Croats from the Croatian diaspora through showcasing their contributions they have made to their communities, Croatia and the world, has already made stops around the world and now it has made its way to Montevideo.
Neckties, scarfs, and biographies of influential Croatians from around the world have been collected for the exhibition.
“We have enriched the exhibition with several 3D panels. We showcased a video, and in addition to two ties crafted in papier-mâché technique by Nives Čičin Šain, we also acquired a new artistic painting on the theme of ties by Elena Rivero Vidovich from Montevideo. It has been decided that, whenever possible, we will involve local artists. As the artist herself stated, the idea behind her tie was to represent, in one sense, the continent, and in another, the Adriatic coast from where her ancestor came in the 19th century,” organisers said.
In the crowded foyer, speakers in front of the audience included Inés Pereyra Rivero, Branka Bezić Filipović, the author of the book “Croats United by the Tie,” Nada Pritisanac Matulich, the leader of the Tie Project, Elena Rivero Vidovich, the painter, and Ramón Cuadra Cantera, the author of the book cover.
The event scheduled at Teatro Solís on November 24, 2023, attracted significant attention and received excellent media coverage.
Two interviews with project participants on national television drew an audience, some of whom made the effort to come from neighbouring towns.
They also received new ties, continuing to expand their collection. Simultaneously, the visibility of their beloved homeland, Croatia, which they promote worldwide through this noble mission, is growing.
