A winery on Croatia’s Istrian peninsula has joined the exclusive company of the best sweet wines from around the world.
Benvenuti’s 2018 San Salvatore Muškat has been ranked among the 15 top-scoring sweet wines in the world from the Decanter World Wine Awards 2023.
This wine from the 2018 harvest impressed experts, who gave it a gold with a score of 95, with its complex flavour and velvety smooth texture.
“A rich and intricate flavour profile features notes of raisin, caramel and dried apricot. Its texture is velvety smooth, with hints of peach and beeswax, the finish sweet and long-lasting. Truly impressive,” Decanter World Wine Awards said.
Sweet wines from Austria, Greece, Australia were the only three to receive platinum awards with over 95 points.
This year, Benvenuti also triumphed on the Decanter list of 25 Croatian golds with three wines, including the San Salvatore Muscat. Additionally, the Istrian winery secured two silvers, further rounding out the successful story of Benvenuti Winery in 2023.
Benvenuti’s winery is part of their family home in Kaldir near Motovun and was founded back in 1946.
