More than 1 million tourists are holidaying in Croatia currently. Croatia passed the magic number on Sunday after 800,000 foreign tourists entered the country on Saturday in what was the busiest weekend to date this season.
Tourist officials in the country predict that last year’s numbers, when 6 million tourists visited Croatia in July and August, will be matched, if not passed this season, despite reports that it has been quiet in parts of the country thus far.
“Most of the results (from last season) have been matched or passed when we talk about physical traffic. The only region to experience a drop at the moment compared with last year is the Istria region which is down 3%. Dalmatia is up according to information we have, and Kvarner is on a par with last season,” said Croatia Tourist Board Director Meri Matesic, who added that the success of the season can not just be measured on cars coming into the country.
