ZAGREB, 30 March (Hina) – Authorities in the eastern Croatian city of Osijek traditionally organised handouts of about 2,000 portions of fish stew for citizens on Good Friday.
In addition to Mayor Ivan Radić and his associates, Defence Minister Ivan Anušić and Osijek-Baranja Deputy Prefect Mato Lukić participated in distributing meal vouchers on Good Friday this year.
About 2,000 vouchers for portions of fish stew were distributed, with a value of €6,000 provided from the City’s budget, Mayor Radić said.
He underscored that Easter is a time of togetherness and gathering and wished all citizens to spend it in peace and good health with their families.
Anušić recalled that tradition dictates that in Slavonia and Baranja fish stew is eaten on Good Friday.
Tradition must be kept and preserved, said Anušić, wishing everyone a Happy Easter.
Fish dishes were also distributed in Rijeka, Vinkovci, Bjelovar and other cities throughout the country.
