The Tuna, Sushi & Wine Festival kicked off in the Croatian city of Zadar in style, with a grand gala evening on Friday at Arsenal, and continued Saturday morning under the large tent at Trg Petra Zoranića.

The flavours of the Adriatic Sea, its blue and white fish, exclusively provided by Zadar companies such as Pelagos Net Farm, Jadran Tuna, Kali Tuna, Cromaris, and Marikomerc, along with the top culinary teams from Biograd’s Ilirija, joined by colleagues from Takenoko, a sushi restaurant in Zagreb, transformed Arsenal into a feast with literally thousands of exquisite bites.

Describing the food offering is simple: It had everything. From classic Japanese sushi, nigiri, and hosomaki to typical Mediterranean bites with tuna, anchovies, Cromaris specialties like sea bass and dentex… Marikomerc’s superb Adriatic octopus carpaccio found an equally prepared partner, a novelty – cuttlefish.

The relaxed gourmet atmosphere, enriched by excellent wines from Zadar’s winemakers, was further enhanced by the lively presence of Danijela Martinović.

The fact that Arsenal was divided into partner and upper (more expensive and served) parts of the dinner didn’t spoil the overall impression. Ilirija proved and demonstrated that it can easily and brilliantly handle even the most demanding culinary challenges.

This year’s TS&WF continued in the same rhythm at Trg Petra Zoranića on Saturday morning. The Saturday buzz of Zadar moved to this square, with long queues forming in front of food corners such as Picnic, Cromaris with brilliant sushi masters Mladen Križanović and local Ivan Bašić, as well as Magura’s team and Burgers & More, powered by Pelagos Net Farm and Jadran Tuna.

Among them were locals, but even more numerous were the tourists who filled the city literally on this warm Saturday morning.

Everyone enjoyed wines exclusively from local Zadar winemakers, authentic cocktails, even non-alcoholic ones for children, as well as globally renowned oils from Pakoštane by Ante Vulin and Tomislav Čudina, cheeses from Žampera on Dugi otok, products from Solana Nin… Elena Stella with her Ante Jeličić Trio provided musical support, contributing to the great atmosphere “in front of Skoblars”.

Both events were opened by the Minister of Tourism Nikolina Brnjac and the director of the main organizer of the event, Iva Bencun. The 8th TS&WF continues in the same rhythm on Sunday at Trg Petra Zoranića, with the brilliant sushi master Mladen Križanović as the main culinary star. In the evening, there will be a musical treat – a concert by Damir Urban.
