Distinguished by their elegance, exceptional intellect, and perpetual cheerfulness, Dalmatian dogs possess a unique charm.
Regrettably, the population of Dalmatians in Croatia, the birthplace of this marvellous spotted breed, has been steadily declining.
The Dalmatia island of Pag is home to a special Dalmatian dog named Pago.
From his early days at just 4 months old, Pago showed a remarkable affinity for adventure, balancing on a stand-up paddleboard, and having his own collection of souvenirs.
By the time he reached 6 months, he was making appearances on national television, showcasing his charm and intelligence.
Now at a year and a half, Pago has taken his role as a Dalmatian ambassador to new heights. Collaborating with musicians such as Jure Brkljača and Dino Petrić, he stars in commercials endorsing API pet products.
Recently, his efforts to promote the cultural heritage of Pag earned him a certificate for original Pag souvenirs.
Not just a pretty face, Pago also made waves at a recent Dalmatian dog show in Zagreb, where judges were captivated by his elegance, awarding him second place in his debut appearance.
But Pago’s influence extends beyond the show ring. He actively engages with his fellow Dalmatians, like Cvita and Niko, spreading the joy of their breed wherever they go.
Their presence highlights the growing appreciation for Dalmatians in Dalmatia itself, with more people recognising their noble traits of loyalty, devotion, and remarkable intelligence.
“The beauty and uniqueness of Dalmatians in the canine world are undeniable. It’s crucial to raise awareness and preserve this distinctive breed, a legacy passed down to us by our ancestors. Pago symbolises not only the charm of Dalmatians but also the pride we should take in our heritage,” local Pag resident and initiator Kristina Alaburić told us.
