ZAGREB, 9 May (Hina) – The third edition of the European event, the Night of Fortresses, which was launched by the Croatian coastal city of Šibenik three years ago, will take place on Friday 10 May in more than 40 cities across six countries.
The project is jointly implemented by the public institution Fortress of Culture Šibenik, the City of Karlovac, the Cities of Banja Luka and Trebinje in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Montenegrin municipalities of Bar and Ulcinj.
The idea is to connect forts, ramparts and castles in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Czech Republic, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovenia and Ukraine and improve the cultural and tourist offer in European cities with fortification heritage.
The Night of Fortresses will be held simultaneously in all participating cities. In Croatia, in addition to Šibenik, the event will be held in Hvar, Kraljevica, Bribir, Osijek, Dubrovnik, Brod na Kupi, Vrana near Pakoštane, Buje, Svetvinčenat, Ogulin, Zadar, Klis, Trogir, Makarska, Omiš, Novigrad, Duga Resa, Tkon, Pag, Ozalj, Vrgorac, Slavonski Brod, Bakar, Preko, Trakošćan, Korčula, Desinić, Varaždin, Našice and Karlovac.
The event was first held in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro in 2022 as a result of the joint European project FORTITUDE. In the last two years, it has connected and promoted programmes at more than 45 fortification sites in six countries.
One of the aims of this project is to raise awareness of the potential and importance of cultural heritage as a generator of cultural tourism.
