The Croatian films and filmmakers at 77th Cannes Film Festival

ZAGREB, 15 May 2024 – The 77th Cannes Film Festival officially kicked off on Tuesday, May 14th in Cannes, France.
Today, May 15th, the world premiere of the Croatian minority co-production “When the Day Breaks” by Rúnar Rúnarsson (Igor A. Nola, MP Film Production) is scheduled, opening the Certain Regard program.
Croatian filmmakers are also participating in industrial programs.
The film “The Man Who Couldn’t Keep Quiet” by Nebojša Slijepčević will have its world premiere in the official competition on Friday, May 24th.
It is the second Croatian film since independence to be featured in the main competition program at the Cannes Film Festival.
The story revolves around a train journey from Belgrade to Bar, interrupted by armed Serbian paramilitary forces who execute Muslim passengers.
The film is based on a true event and stars Goran Bogdan, Alexis Manenti, and others.
Additionally, the Icelandic film “Lamb” by Rúnar Rúnarsson will open the Certain Regard program. It tells the story of Una, a young art student, experiencing love, friendship, sadness, and beauty over the course of a day.
Tibor Keser has been selected to participate in the Producers on the Move platform due to his successful producing career, including the award-winning documentary “El Shatt – A Draft for Utopia.”
Lucija Perić, a Croatian producer, is participating in the New Producers Room, aimed at young producing talents, while the Croatian Audiovisual Center is presenting Croatian cinema at the Cannes Film Market.
The Cannes Film Festival, running from May 14th to 25th, is a significant event in the film industry, showcasing diverse international cinema.
