RIJEKA, 4 June 2024 – Luka Modrić, the captain of the Croatian national football team, joined the squad in Rijeka on Tuesday after winning his sixth European Championship title with Real Madrid, making him the most decorated player in the 122-year history of the “royal club.”

Before meeting his teammates, Luka was greeted in the hotel lobby by the president of the Croatian Football Federation, Marijan Kustić.

A welcome lunch was held in his honor, complete with a cake decorated with Champions League motifs.

“On behalf of the president, the coach, all of us here, and the entire Croatian football family, I express my deep respect and congratulate you on yet another magnificent achievement. We are all very proud that you are one of us,” said team manager Iva Olivari in her opening remarks before giving the floor to Luka Modrić.

“Thank you all for the congratulations, but I also want to congratulate everyone on their phenomenal seasons. However, that’s now behind us,” the 38-year-old said, adding.

“We need to focus on what’s ahead, which is the European Championship. We must demonstrate the unity that has always been our hallmark, especially in major tournaments. We need to be like a family, as we have been so far, give our maximum effort, and believe in ourselves because we have the quality. If we do that, we can achieve great things,” Modrić emphasized.
