70th edition of Split Summer Festival to offer 54 events at 16 venues

ZAGREB, 4 July (Hina) – The 70th edition of the Split Summer Festival will take place at 16 venues in Split, Vrlika and Kaštel Gomilica from 15 July to 14 August, the organisers of the festival told a news conference on Monday.
The “Carmina Burana” opera will be performed at the Peristil venue in the centre of Split on 15 July as part of the opening ceremony.
There will be 34 operas, plays, ballet performances and concerts plus exhibitions and poetry readings during the festival.
The opera schedule includes revivals of “Aida” and “Ero the Joker,” culminating in a grand gala concert at the Meštrović Gallery.
Ballet lovers should mark August 2 and 3, when choreographer Valentina Turcu presents a fresh take on “Madame Bovary.”
The drama premieres feature Dražen Krešić’s “Judita,” commemorating the 500th anniversary of Marko Marulić’s death, and “Stories from the Ferry,” a collaboration by Anica Tomić, Jelena Kovačić, and Ivor Martinić, performed by 20 actors from the Croatian National Theatre Split.
The festival also boasts a wide array of concerts, ranging from solo performances to full orchestras, ensuring a memorable celebration of its 70th anniversary.
