Under the open sky in Ivan Pavao II Square, the 54th Trogir Cultural Summer was officially opened last night in the coastal Croatian town of Trogir.
This year’s edition is dedicated to celebrating six decades of continuous activity by Klapa Trogir, the first formally organised klapa in Dalmatia.
The event was graced by renowned Croatian musician and singer Ivica Sikirić Ićo, who took over as the lead tenor from the legendary Vinko Coce in 1995, continuing the tradition of high-quality musical performances.
The opening ceremony began with a speech by Mayor Ante Bilić, who welcomed everyone and officially declared the Trogir Cultural Summer open by lowering the flag.
The 54th Cultural Summer’s inauguration is devoted to the continuous preservation and nurturing of authentic klapa songs and a cappella singing.
For over half a century, Klapa Trogir has symbolised the original strength and beauty of Dalmatian musical expression.
An impeccable performance of the song “Projden Kroz Pasike,” which officially started the summer in the city, evoked strong emotions from more than a thousand locals and visitors who filled the main square to the brim.
The highlight was Ivica Sikirić Ićo’s appearance, who captivated the audience with his well-known hits. The succession of fantastic singers on stage and their joint performances of iconic songs created an enchanting atmosphere, showcasing klapa singing as an invaluable jewel of Trogir’s intangible cultural heritage.
The magical ambience of the entire programme was further enhanced by emotional video reports that vividly, personally, and touchingly depicted the musical creation and activity of Klapa Trogir and Ivica Sikirić Ićo.
The uninterrupted musical journey of Klapa Trogir, spanning sixty years, is imbued with feelings of nostalgia, happiness, pride, and unity. In honour of this extraordinary jubilee, the 54th Trogir Cultural Summer was ceremoniously opened for locals and visitors.
This marks the beginning of a period when the UNESCO city transforms into an open stage. Over the next two and a half months, we can expect a diverse and high-quality cultural, entertainment, musical, and sports programme with over 75 events, confirming the richness of artistic creation that our city possesses and hosts.
