Torrential rain did not stop more than 300 Croatian soldiers and citizens from gathering last night in Knin’s (Sibenik-Knin County) main square to celebrate the 57th birthday of convicted Croatian General Ante Gotovina.
A large fireworks display was organised as war veterans read out prayers and poems to celebrate ‘heroic’ Gotovina’s birthday. Well wishes will be sent personally to Gotovina who is currently serving a 24-year prison sentence in The Hague, reported HRT.
The former Lieutenant General was indicted in 2001 by the International Criminal Tribunal, accusing him of war crimes and crimes against humanity. In April 2011 he was sentenced to 24-years imprisonment, much to the anger of many Croatians who see him as a hero.
