The Jesus and Mary Chain will be performing in Croatia for the first time.
One of the most influential bands of their generation will kick off the new concert season at Zagreb’s Tvornica Kulture on Wednesday, 28 August 2024.
The band is celebrating 40 years of existence with a major tour and an autobiography, with Zagreb being one of their stops.
One of the most renowned and important British bands of all time, The Jesus and Mary Chain, are marking their significant anniversary with a tour that started in March.
The Reid brothers will finally make their appearance in Zagreb. They have also marked their grand anniversary with the album “Glasgow Eyes,” released in March – their first studio album since “Damage and Joy” in 2017. In addition to this milestone, the brothers have announced an autobiography and a documentary for this special year.
Like their previous releases, “Glasgow Eyes” melds the past, present, and future into a brilliant, dark, and romantic album that signifies a return to their roots. The album was recorded at the Castle of Doom studio in Glasgow, with Jim and William Reid fully immersing themselves in the creative process.
These songs represent their new chapter, combining a whirlwind of melody, feedback, controlled chaos, a love for Suicide and Kraftwerk, and a less disciplined approach to jazz. The sound and energy of the new release are once again fresh and radical, exuding an undeniable dark charm.
The Jesus and Mary Chain transformed from a brilliant idea into reality in June 1984, on the night the band played their first gig. These irresistible outsiders have since created their own universe and played a key role in the formation of sub-genres such as shoegaze and noise pop.
Their debut album “Psychocandy” and progressive musical expression won over critics, but their second release “Darklands” catapulted them to stardom.
The album reached the fifth spot on the UK Album Chart, and the hit single “April Skies” peaked at number eight in the UK. From their third album “Automatic” (1989), singles “Blues from a Gun” and “Head On” particularly stood out, conquering the charts.
After a highly successful and productive decade, the band soon disbanded, but the musical forces proved too strong, leading to their reunion in 2007. Their seventh album, and first in 19 years, “Damage and Joy,” was released 10 years later.
The Jesus and Mary Chain are preparing a magical opening for the new concert season at Tvornica Kulture. As part of their major world tour, the British legends will perform hits like “Head On,” “Just Like Honey,” and “April Skies” for the first time in Zagreb, as well as introduce their fresh material celebrating 40 magnificent years of a band that has changed the course of music history and influenced the creation of new genres.
Dark romance will prevail at the end of August, and the Croatian audience will finally enjoy a sound that never fades.
A limited number of tickets are on sale for €32. Once these are sold out, the price will increase to €36, and if any tickets remain on the day of the concert, they will cost €40.
Tickets can be purchased at all sales points and online at Entrio.hr. If the concert sells out, it will not be moved to a larger venue.
