Located in the northern part of Bjelovar-Bilogora County, Velika Pisanica holds the title of the longest village in Croatia.
Velika Pisanica comprises eight settlements. The village itself has 1,313 residents and stretches over an impressive 13 kilometres.
Saying “I’m just popping over to the neighbour’s” here can mean anything from crossing the street to getting into a car and driving several kilometres, writes Večernji list.
Length is not the only attribute this charming place boasts.
“Our nature is truly untouched. We are an emerging destination, much like all continental tourism,” Jasna Ileković told Večernji List’s Tourism Patrol.
In front of the municipal building, there is a large pisanica (Easter egg), and the village is bustling with family farms offering products such as honey, brandy, liqueurs, juices, and gin.
Hunting tourism is also being developed, with the nearby Babinac hunting lodge situated close to this gem at the foot of Bilogora.
It is also the birthplace of the renowned Croatian painter Edo Murtić, born here in 1921. Each May, Velika Pisanica hosts the traditional Edo Murtić Days.
The village also features three churches—Catholic, Orthodox, and Calvinist.
