Swordfish treats researchers near Croatian island

Croatia’s Adriatic Sea is home to a rich variety of marine life, and the Blue World Institute of Marine Research and Conservation is at the forefront of efforts to protect it.

The Blue World Institute of Marine Research and Conservation (BWI), based in Veli Lošinj on the island of Lošinj, is dedicated to protecting the Adriatic Sea’s marine environment.

While dolphins are the primary focus of their research, the Institute’s fieldwork often reveals other fascinating marine species.

Recently, during an expedition near the island of Premuda, researchers were treated to the sight of a swordfish (Latin name Xiphias gladius) leaping from the water.

This encounter highlights the rich biodiversity of the Adriatic Sea and underscores the importance of BWI’s mission.

Through their work in research, education, and conservation, the Blue World Institute continues to deepen our understanding of the marine world and promote the protection of its many inhabitants.
