Why Water Quality Matters
The quality of coastal bathing water is not just about clear, blue seas; it’s a crucial factor for public health and environmental protection.
Pollutants such as Escherichia coli (E. coli) and intestinal enterococci can contaminate bathing waters, posing serious health risks to swimmers.
These bacteria often originate from untreated wastewater or agricultural runoff, particularly after heavy rains, making effective wastewater treatment essential.
Improvements in wastewater treatment have played a role in reducing pollution levels, ensuring that the waters along Croatia’s stunning coastlines remain safe for locals and tourists alike.
Monitoring for a Safe Swim
Throughout the swimming season, EU Member States like Croatia actively monitor the quality of their coastal waters.
This data is then reported, analysed, and shared with the public, providing a reliable forecast of water quality for the upcoming season.
The high rankings Croatia achieved not only reflect the current state of its waters but also reassure visitors that they can expect clean, safe swimming conditions in the future.
The Adriatic Sea, with its crystal-clear waters and exceptional safety standards, is more inviting than ever.
