Žnjan, a coastal neighbourhood in the Croatian city of Split, is undergoing a massive redevelopment, marking the city’s largest urban project in over 50 years.
Known for its expansive beaches and scenic views, Žnjan has long been a popular spot for locals and tourists alike. The current €45 million project, largely funded by the European Investment Bank, aims to transform the area into a modern recreational hub, Morski.hr reported
Dozens of machines are working at full capacity, and the project is expected to be completed in just over six months.
A large, half-kilometre-long garage is nearly finished, along with the concrete structures of several smaller buildings.
A new promenade, poured in colourful concrete, now stretches halfway along its final length, and the eastern diving platform has been formed and is ready to be moved into its final position.
The coastline of Žnjan beach will remain largely untouched, but behind it, various sports courts, a large amphitheatre, promenades, cycling paths, children’s playgrounds, a garage, and parking for 1,000 vehicles will be developed. In addition, there will be 11 locations for hospitality venues and 40,000 square metres of green spaces.
Although the Žnjan plateau is currently dominated by machinery, cranes, and hundreds of workers, once the construction is completed, this, the largest building site in Split, will be transformed into a lush oasis with a variety of public amenities, all free and accessible to both locals and visitors.
The project leaders, Žnjan d.o.o., have provided a glimpse of the future through a new video animation. Less than three months since work began, the project is progressing according to the planned schedule.
Check out the video below of current works and how the project will look once complete.
