Chicago’s Croatian Cultural Center is home to four stunning murals celebrating the natural beauty and rich heritage of Croatia.
Last year, the first public murals in the Midwest celebrating the natural beauty of Croatia were completed on the Croatian Cultural Center’s north-facing wall along Devon Avenue.
The four murals, each 12 feet tall, were hand-painted by Croatian-American artist Ivan Mikan over two months, highlighting Croatia’s stunning landscapes and architecture.
The first mural features the peaceful Mirogoj Cemetery in Zagreb, known for its Gothic arches, sculptures, and serene atmosphere.
The second depicts the majestic Krka Waterfalls in southern Croatia, framed by limestone terraces and a quaint stone house.
The third mural captures the charm of a cobblestone street along the Adriatic coast, blending nature with urban life.
The largest mural, at 52 feet wide, showcases Dubrovnik’s famous Old City, its historic walls, and the picturesque trees lining the coastal town, all bathed in the glow of a sunset.
The murals were funded by Devon Avenue Special Service Area 43, one of 54 local tax districts in Chicago.
