Records Tumble at Dubrovnik Stone Walls

The number of tourists to visit the famous tourist attraction in the southern Dalmatian city of Dubrovnik, the cities stone walls, in the first 7 months of 2013 has broken last year’s record.
433,000 tourists have visited the famous walls so far in 2013, with 147,000 only visiting in July, 13% more than last July. In the first 7 months of 2012 379,000 tourists had visited the walls.
Niko Kapetanic, secretary of the organisation charged with looking after the famous city stone walls, says that they are on track this year to beat last year’s record of 776,000 tourists in a single year. The series of stone walls are 1940 meters long and 25 meters high. In 1979, the old city of Dubrovnik, which includes a substantial portion of the old walls of Dubrovnik, joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
