Another legendary Croatian establishment has become part of history — Konoba Torkul in Primošten.

Konoba Torkul had been a staple of Primošten’s dining scene since 2001.

Through its traditional Dalmatian cuisine, it established itself as popular spot both among locals and tourists over the past two and a half decades.

The interior, which was adorned with a collection of historical artefacts, including an old “torkul,” (olive press), helped provide an authentic ambience which was well loved.

The restaurant also included a terrace with a stunning sea view, making it an inviting place for guests to enjoy their meals.

The reason for its closure is the retirement of its owner, Tomislav Bonjola, after an impressive 43 years in the industry.

Here’s what Mr Bonjola wrote on Facebook about this decision:

Dear valued guests, employees and friends of Tavern TORKUL,

It is with humble gratitude and a heavy heart that I announce the closing of the Konoba TORKUL restaurant.

This has been a very difficult and emotional decision and I am so sad to say goodbye, after 24 years we closed our doors on Sunday 29th September as I have decided it is time to move on to the next chapter of my life which is a well deserved retirement after 43 years of service.

I would like to thank the staff, past and present, for being a part of the restaurant and for helping us provide so many wonderful experiences to our wonderful guests over the years. Some of them become family.

There are no words that clearly express the love and gratitude I feel for our guests who have supported us so much to keep the vision alive. A huge thank you to everyone who had lunch or dinner with us, whether you’ve been with us for years or just recently found us.

We are grateful for your continued support and loyalty, we are truly humbled and honored to serve you. You have entrusted us with some of your most precious events and many other completely routine and sometimes, completely extraordinary moments.

Once again, my deepest gratitude and best and most sincere wishes, I hope you stay safe and take care of each other. I will miss you all very much.

Sincerely and with so much love,

Tomislav Bonjolo
