VIDEO: LADO brings Croatian tradition to Mexico

The LADO Ensemble began its tour in Mexico with dance and vocal-instrumental performances at the Cultura UNAM festival.
The festival takes place in Mexico’s capital, Mexico City, where Croatia’s only national professional folklore ensemble showcased its most renowned dance and musical pieces, presenting Croatia’s rich musical and dance traditions.
The dance performance at the Cultura UNAM festival took place on 10th October at the packed Sala Miguel Covarrubias, where the audience enjoyed “Ladarke,” “Valpovačko Kolo,” “Lički Plesovi,” and other iconic pieces.

The event was attended by Pjer Šimunović, the Croatian Ambassador to the United States, representing Dr. Nina Obuljen Koržinek, the Croatian Minister of Culture and Media, as well as Laura Martin del Campo Steta, the Honorary Consul of Croatia in Mexico.
The second vocal-instrumental concert at the Cultura UNAM festival took place on 11th October, featuring the most well-known pieces from LADO’s extensive repertoire. Juan Ayala, the director of the Cultura UNAM festival, expressed his delight that LADO was one of the highlights of this year’s edition.
He remarked on the rich and diverse Croatian cultural heritage, noting its similarities with Mexican heritage.
Zrinka Posavec, LADO’s artistic director, expressed her pleasure at the privilege of performing in Mexico for the first time since the ensemble’s founding, thus showcasing Croatian cultural heritage. Ileana Jurin Bakotić, the director of the LADO Ensemble, highlighted that LADO is performing two different programmes in Mexico and expressed her satisfaction that the ensemble is celebrating its 75th anniversary in Mexico.
The tour in Mexico continues on 14th October with a dance performance at the 52nd Cervantino Festival, one of the world’s largest festivals, featuring thousands of performers from around the globe.
It takes place in the Mexican city of Guanajuato. LADO’s tour in Mexico has been realised with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia, the City of Zagreb, and sponsors, including the Croatian Chamber of Commerce and the company Končar d.d.
