A Kiwi-Croatian is running the length of New Zealand – twice – for a good cause

A New Zealander with Croatian heritage, Stefan Ozich, is running the length of the New Zealand not once – but twice. A feat that has never been done before.

Earlier this month, Stefan set off on the extraordinary endurance challenge – running and hiking the entire length of New Zealand’s Te Araroa Trail twice, a distance totaling over 6,000 kilometers.

He has set himself a goal of completing it in 100 days.

This unprecedented feat is designed to raise awareness and financial support for men’s mental health, with a goal to raise $1,000,000 for The Last Chance Project, a charity dedicated to men’s mental well-being.

Why This Cause?

“My name is Stefan Ozich, and last year, my brother tragically took his own life,” says Stefan. “Through this journey, I hope to bring attention to the mental health struggles many men endure, often in isolation. I believe that even the smallest stride of support can lift someone out of darkness and into the light of recovery and resilience.”

Stefan is an experienced endurance athlete, is no stranger to pushing his limits. With a background that includes completing multiple 100-mile ultra-marathons, Ironman, and half-Ironman races, he is now embarking on his most challenging endeavour yet.

Stefan is aiming to raise $1,000,000 for The Last Chance Project and is accepting donations which will directly support initiatives that provide vital mental health services, counselling, and resources to men in need.

Only a few weeks in, Stefan says he has been surprised how good the body has adapted and reacted to the taxing daily runs.

Stefan has a team with him on the challenge, including a cook, who is rustling up daily meals of around 5,000 calories for the Kiwi-Croatian to keep him going.
